Nature Inspired August Activities in London
Connect baby with Earth this month as we adventure into the wilderness of London to find activities that are naturally exciting.
Summer is the perfect time to nourish your little one's love of all things nature. The sun is shining, the bees are buzzing and those tiny yet ever-growing minds are ready to experience the best of what our planet has to offer.
Throughout August there are plenty of special activities happening all around London. In a built up city, finding greenery can seem difficult, but you just have to find the right shrubbery spots.
With the help of OllyOlly we’ve discovered six beautifully natural places within the concrete city that will keep baby entertained whilst providing a sense of unity with the environment.
1. Become part of the Breath-taking Butterflies
Cocoon yourself and the little ones in the fluttering world of Sensational Butterflies at the Natural History Museum this month. Experience the colourful magic of butterflies and moths from all over the world as you wander through the free-flying tropic.
Times: Open daily from 10am – 5.50pm (Last entry 5.15pm)
Prices: Adult £6.50 / Child £6.50 / Family £22
Tube: South Kensington / Train: Victoria & Paddington
2. What planet would you travel to & explore?
Being kind to the planet is important to us, and if it were possible we’d do the same for all the others floating out there. We can’t, but you and little one can travel to outer space in the Meet the Neighbours Planetarium Show at Royal Observatory Greenwich & decide if you’d rather protect Jupiter or surf the rings of Saturn.
Times: Daily 2.45pm / Weekends & Holidays 11.45am / Term-time Mon/Weds 12.45pm & 1.45pm
Prices: Adult £7.50 / Child £6.50 / Family £20
Transport: Cutty Sark for Maritime Greenwich & Greenwich (both include 15min walk)
3. Tell the world your fantasy tale
An incredible space to get little ones imagining their own story full of creatures and plants as they venture into the outdoor story space at the Children’s Story Centre. The perfect place to let them flourish with creativity in every way possible.
Times: Everyday 10am – 5pm
Prices: Adult £5 / Child £5 / Family £18 / Under 2s Free

4. Adventure into the wilderness
One way to get the children conscious about the environment is with WWTs thoughtful Be a Nature Explorer activity, which combines rewards with wildlife. Collect passport stamps for making mini-beast motels at home or spotting frogs in the local ponds. Some challenges are done at home & others at the London Wetland Centre.
Times: Everyday 9.30am – 5.30pm (Last entry 4.30pm)
Prices: Adult £13.10 / Child £7.20 / Family £36.60 / Under 4s Free

5. Sandy Toes at Stratford
It’s not always easy to travel all the way to the coast with your baby in tow, so London has brought the serenity of the beach to you at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Whilst baby becomes familiar with the feeling of sand between their tiny toes and wind through their ruffled hair, you can indulge in some drinks & watch the Olympics.
Times: Everyday 10am – 10pm
Prices: Adult £2 / Under 12s £1 / Under 3s Free
Transport: Stratford or Hackney Wick
6. The Vibrant History of Nature
Become the eyes of nature and explore how colour has evolved & adapted in this inspiring installation at the Natural History Museum. Little one will learn all about how colour interacts with wild animals to influence design & art. They’ll also be able to see over 350 rarely seen specimens of animals, starting with some of the very first living organisms.
Times: Everyday 10am – 5.30pm
Prices: Adult £10.80 / Child £5.40 / Family £27 / Under 4s Free
