The story of our signature fabric

We wanted to create a fabric that was exceptionally soft and safer than regular materials. Our signature fabric is naturally breathable, thermoregulating & moisture-wicking, keeping little ones at the perfect temperature day & night, through every season.

Before launching MORI in 2015, our founder Akin used his knowledge & heritage in textiles to perfect the fabric, made using the natural materials organic cotton & bamboo

“No other clothes compare to the softness of MORI clothes, would definitely recommend!...” - Jade Munson,

What goes into making our signature fabric?

Organic cotton + bamboo + caring craftsmanship = supersoft, breathable & thermoregulating fabric

  • Step 1 - dried cotton & bamboo

Our bamboo is a highly sustainable resource grown in China & our organic cotton comes from Turkey, which is GMO-free & supports sustainable development programmes for workers.

  • Step 2 - bamboo cotton pulp

In the environmentally conscious facilities of our experienced mills, the raw bamboo is crushed and the cotton is cleaned. The two ingredients are then heated with limited chemicals & water to create a pulp. The pulp is dried and separated into sheets.

  • Step 3 - bamboo cotton fibre

The sheets of fibre are then mechanically combed out and spun into yarn using a spinneret. This is then wound onto bobbins ready for weaving into our softest fabric.

The result is a unique blend of 30% organic cotton & 70% bamboo. The fabric is easy to care for & sustainable which is gentle on a baby or toddler’s sensitive skin.

“I ordered some clothes for my 7-month-old and was so impressed with the quality that I’ve ordered more, not only for my little one but for a friend who is expecting. Lovely soft items clearly make to suit delicate baby skin. I will continue to order. Thank you to all the MORI team” - BC

Why we chose organic cotton

At MORI, we want to be kind to the world we live in & make our clothes with love. Not only is it softer than regular cotton, but organic cotton is also grown using methods that have a low environmental impact, without harmful chemicals, pesticides or fertilisers. The farmers, millers, cutters & makers we use to source it are all treated & paid fairly, working in safe conditions so they can support their families & communities.

Why we use bamboo from viscose

Using closed-loop processes for our viscose, whereby no chemicals enter the waste stream, and sourcing from sustainable raw materials, our fabric is much less harmful to the planet than conventionally produced cotton or oil-based synthetics like polyester.

“My son has severe eczema that we work hard to control and MORI clothes are the softest that we could find. His skin is much happier wearing MORI, he wears sleepwear and also daytime MORI clothes. We are so glad we found this company! " - MORI parent

The sustainability of our signature fabric

We wanted to ensure our clothing is kind to the planet & created using methods that are fair to those who make it. Therefore, we use a blend of natural fabrics that are durable with no harmful chemicals added. We also ensure to use trusted factories to make our products to ensure fair & safe working conditions.

The environmental footprint of our signature fabric is also reduced by our use of viscose in the blend, which increases the durability of the fabric & therefore the life-time of our garments.

While many clothing brands, especially those in the activewear industry, use additional chemicals to stabilise their bamboo-based fabrics, MORI has developed its signature fabric without additional chemicals added.

“The bamboo fabric is so soft! I would highly recommend MORI to anyone looking for high quality, sustainable babywear!” - Monique

How to care for our signature fabric

Our clothing is made to last & its environmental journey continues with you. With thoughtful care, the pieces will remain to look & feel great, so they can be passed on again & again. Bamboo is a delicate fabric that doesn’t like higher temperatures, so we recommend the following advice:

  • Wash at 30 degrees
  • When washing, keep the zips closed
  • Wash with similar colours
  • It may shrink a little after washing, if so, gently pull back into shape whilst damp
  • Tumble dry low or line dry
  • Iron at low temperature

Bamboo yarns are long & strong which makes garments more durable. However, because we don’t use extra chemicals to stabilise the fabric to keep it as natural as possible, you may notice slight bobbling with initial use. This is due to the longer yarns which continue to stick to the garment rather than falling off. Slight pilling is normal for natural fibres, but can be reduced by ironing or using a lint remover & doesn’t impact on the durability or the softness of the clothing

“Bought for 3 of my children and absolutely love Baby MORI. Passed clothes down to each of my sons and everything still looks brand new. So soft, so cosy and washes well, everything you want in a baby product” - Leonie Thompson
